The Mysterious Affair of Agatha Christie

It's a story that even the Queen of Crime couldn't have come up with: the mysterious disappearance of the most famous writer in England and subsequent nationwide search, then fifty years later a sance in a glamorous Istanbul hotel and the discovery of a key that could solve the whole mystery.

Agatha Christie's Torquay

Throughout her long life, one place in particular remained close to Agatha Christie's heart. Tucked away in the southwest corner of England is Torquay, a picturesque seaside resort. Not only was it where she spent a happy, memorable childhood, but also where she learnt about poisons and found inspiration for settings in her stories. Even the idea for her famous detective Hercule Poirot came from her hometown. I knew that to capture the essence of this most famous crime writer, I had to travel west.

Death & Life on the Nile, Agatha Christie's Egypt
January 10, 2011 |
My sister, mother, and I are traveling on a Nile cruise. This is our first trip to Egypt. We have an itinerary reminiscent of Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile (1937). We sail on Alexander the Great, a five star, boutique Nile cruise ship, host to celebrities like Jacques Chirac, Catherine de Neuve, Spanish couturier Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, and Peter Norton (of Norton Anti-Virus). The ship prides itself on quiet English style. Afternoon tea is served promptly at five. Death on the Nile plays on TV.
