"A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty. " - Winston Churchill

Please join me aboard the majestic Queen Mary 2 for a once-in-a-lifetime trans-Atlantic crossing that harkens back to another era as we explore the distinguished public and private life of Winston Churchill. The lavish ballrooms and soaring banquet halls of Queen Mary 2 recall the mid-twentieth-century, when ocean liners represented the height of glamour and elegance. As you stroll her decks, it is easy to imagine society men and women discussing the startling growth of Fascism in Europe or the scandal of the Prince of Wales and Mrs. Simpson, and in the evening, dancing to tunes made famous by Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey and Count Basie.

During that age of uncertainty, Winston Churchill stepped onto the world stage as a voice of courage and statesmanship. Throughout our journey, we'll revisit a turbulent and fascinating era in English history, and delve into the life of one of its most famous sons.

The Queen Mary 2One of the highlights of this journey is Queen Mary 2 herself. Take advantage of the remarkable amenities of this fabulous floating city during our six night voyage. Treat yourself to a massage at the state-of-the-art spa and fitness center, visit the planetarium, browse the library, or attend a class taught by a stellar group of Oxford tutors. In the evenings, enjoy a performance at the theatre, have a drink at the piano bar, or take a turn on the dance floor.

As we sail towards Southampton, Churchill author and political scientist Dr. James Muller will offer lively presentations on Churchill's fascinating personal and political life. Upon arrival, we'll trace the footsteps of Churchill from his place of birth at Blenheim to the Cabinet War Rooms in London to his home in the Kent countryside. We'll enjoy private tours and museum visits, and a meeting with the prime minister's granddaughter, Celia Sandys, who will offer us an intimate look at the life and work of this charismatic man.

Space for our group is limited, so please make plans to join me for what promises to be a delightful jaunt.

Sincerely,

Scott Gerloff
