Lorca and Granada: Beauty, Passion and Tragedy. A 5 day literary walking tour featuring the great Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca, Washington Irving, Gerald Brenan, and the composer Manuel de Falla.
''Verde, que te quiero verde / Verde viento. Verdes ramas."
(''Green, how I want you green / Green wind. Green branches.")*
On this tour - available at various dates - we spend a week in the wonderful springtime of southern Spain exploring the exciting and sensual city of Granada and the beautiful countryside of the surrounding villages in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Granada, the Alhambra Palace and the villages of the 'Alpujarras' were a source of inspiration for Lorca. He spent much time, and indeed the last week of his life, in the area. The English writer Gerald Brenan was an associate of the Bloomsbury Group, and Lytton Strachey, Carrington, and Virginia Woolf visited him here. Brenan wrote the classic travel book 'South From Granada'.
