Ernest Hemingway and his second wife, Pauline, moved to Key West in 1928, and moved to this home in 1931. They remained in Key West for ten years, during which time Hemingway wrote some of his most celebrated novels, including A Farewell to Arms and To Have and Have Not.
The 1851 house where the Hemingways lived still contains many of the their possessions, including furniture, a collection of chandeliers, photographs, and artwork, including a sculpture of a cat which was a gift of Pablo Picasso. The grounds are also home to sixty cats, and many of them are believed to be descendants of Hemingway?¢??s own six-toed cat.
