John Hay was Secretary of State at the young age of 22 to President Abraham Lincoln.  He was present the day Lincoln was killed in Ford's Theater.  His journals and writing serve as historical documentation of the Civil War era.  Hay's alma mater dedicated this library in his honor.  It houses the Special Collections and a quiet Reading Room which includes free wireless internet.  Past events have been a celebration of Bernard Shaw's birthday, a presentation on the women of Rhode Island and a lecture on the race relations between Lincoln and Frederick Douglass during the Civil War.
