John Hay was Secretary of State at the young age of 22 to President Abraham Lincoln.  He was present the day Lincoln was killed in FordÃ?¢??s Theater.  His journals and writing serve as historical documentation of the Civil War era.  HayÃ?¢??s alma mater dedicated this library in his honor.  It houses the Special Collections and a quiet Reading Room which includes free wireless internet.  Past events have been a celebration of Bernard ShawÃ?¢??s birthday, a presentation on the women of Rhode Island and a lecture on the race relations between Lincoln and Frederick Douglass during the Civil War.
