A portion of American literary history is dedicated to one-time enslaved African-American writers such as Frederick Douglass and Harriet A. Jacobs.  On display are the artifacts made and used by many slaves from 1750 to the mid 1800s.  A tourist can see a handmade quilt with over 425 abolitionist names, a slave collar, an ankle shackle, chains, the diary of Susan B. Boomer, and furniture such as a bed and cradle.
