In L. Frank Baum's childhood home of Chittenango, NY, one can stroll down the yellow sidewalks of Genesee Street.  The painted main road honors the author's claim to fame: The Wizard of Oz.  The L. Frank Baum-Oz Museum has a collection of movie memorabilia, including photos of the 1939 classic film with Judy Garland, and books.  The museum is open between 12-3 p.m. (Monday Saturday), and welcomes donations for a new space.

The Chittenango businesses add to the town's charm.  There is Scarecrow Computers, Auntie Em's Pies, Emerald City Grill and Tin Man Construction to name a few.  In the Oz Cream shop, the television re-runs The Wizard of Oz day and night.
 
The most celebrated event is Oz Fest (not to be confused with Ozzy Osbourne).  The annual festival, taking place in June, last four days, and showcases such events as: a golf tournament, parade, and costume contest.  However, the highlight of the festival is the return of the Munchkins, the surviving actors from the 1939 film, who are treated like royalty . . . something you can only see in Chittenango.
